Today, GOAL is delighted to announce that Dan Sheehan, international rugby player, is coming on board as ambassador for the aid agency. Dan will kindly lend his support and profile, to promote GOAL’s humanitarian aid and development programmes in 14 countries across Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and Ukraine.

In announcing this crucial new ambassador role, Jane Curtin, GOAL’s Head of Communications, said,

“In early 2024, the UN warned that the world has entered an age of chaos, with deep and dangerous dysfunction. For millions, caught up in conflict, life is a deadly and daily overwhelming struggle with wars in Gaza, Ukraine and Sudan and protracted conflict in Syria, Haiti, Yemen, and Myanmar, coupled with climate change, global food and financial crises and mass global displacement. This all presents an unprecedented global need for humanitarian assistance and an ever-growing requirement to promote that need and secure support and funding.”

“GOAL founded by John O’Shea, Irish Sports Journalist, in 1977, has always had a long and warm association with the Irish sports arena and a long legacy of Irish sports ambassadors. GOAL and our 3,500 GOALies who work across the world are also synonymous with projecting GOAL GRIT (Guts, Resilience, Initiative and Tenacity). And in our world, we believe that Dan Sheehan represents the very best of GOAL GRIT and so, we are absolutely delighted to welcome Dan on board and look forward to him championing GOAL’s cause and work.” continued Jane Curtin.

“I will proudly continue to represent GOAL and do what I can to support and advocate for the charity and their work across the world for the most vulnerable communities, as the aid agency responds to extreme crises and supports these communities to build long-term resilience,” continued Dan Sheehan.
