GOAL Legal Counsel (FTC 6 months)

Job Purpose

The Legal Counsel will work with GOAL’s permanent Legal Counsel to support GOAL’s country offices and HQ on a diverse range of corporate and contractual matters, as well as on legal risk in the context of our humanitarian responses, our development and other programming work, procurement, awards, finance, and HR. Please note this role is initially offered as 6 month FTC.

This is a great opportunity for a qualified lawyer with 2 – 4 years’ PQE, who has experience in the INGO sector or is looking to make the transfer from either in-house or private practice. The role offers the opportunity to do interesting, challenging and truly meaningful work as part of a dynamic organisation.

The candidate will need to be a solicitor or barrister qualified in Ireland or a common law jurisdiction, a good team player, with good attention to detail and a willingness

Key areas of Responsibility:

  • Provide legal advice to GOAL's offices and headquarters on a range of corporate and contractual matters.
  • Reviewing and drafting contracts, agreements, and other legal documents related to procurement, awards, finance, and HR.
  • Advising on regulatory compliance and legal requirements in the countries where GOAL operates.
  • Collaborate with the permanent Legal Counsel to develop and implement legal strategies and policies to support GOAL's operations.
  • Conduct analysis to support decision-making and ensure adherence to relevant laws and regulations.
  • Assist with the management of legal risks associated with GOAL's development, humanitarian response, and other programming work.
  • Representing GOAL in legal proceedings or negotiations as needed, and serving as a point of contact for external legal counsel.

The Person

  • Experience of commercial law, and experience in one or more of the following areas of law: general corporate, commercial / contract, employment, finance, treasury, charity/not-for-profit, data protection, intellectual property or dispute resolution.
  • Ability to provide pragmatic advice and be solution driven, with strong communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Maintains a calm disposition and positive outlook, particularly when working under pressure.

Desirable

  • Experience operating in a range of jurisdictions, including instructing overseas counsel.
  • Experience of the contexts in which GOAL operates.
  • Advanced French and/or Arabic language skills

**GOAL offers staff flexible working with our hybrid model, we require our HQ employees to work 2 days per week from our office in Dun Laoghaire, Dublin**
